The perfect pointy-toe flats

Jackie has champagne tastes on a student budget. That’s why she keeps a close eye on celebrity trends, then scours fast fashion outlets to recreate the look for less.

I am absolutely loving these pointy-toe flats from DV by Dolce Vita.

Dolce Vita has long been one of my lust-after shoe brands, but is a bit on the pricey side.

DV by Dolce Vita is much more affordable and has some adorable shoe options, like this!

Every woman should own a great pair of pointy-toe flats, as they look amazing with many different outfits. My favorite pairing? Slightly slouchy skinny jeans and a faux-fur vest.

Do you have any pointy-toe flat favs?

Fierce shoes at tame prices

Megan covets many shoes (especially sexy librarian pumps), but when it comes to buying, she's all about building a classic, versatile collection of soles.

If you were a fan of Christian Siriano on Project Runway, check out his new shoe line for Payless, released September 8. Here are my favorites from his Egyptian-inspired collection!

He has a couple of great flats in his line — feminine and stylish with great, luxe details. Isn’t the turquoise a great color?

I’m a fan of tough-looking shoes, and Christian’s heels and boots don’t disappoint. Hardware and zippers on shiny, leather-like material — I love it!

The best part? You can snatch these up for no more than $50. Now that’s fierce!

Packing for a beach vacation, part 3: Shoes and sundries

Jackie has champagne tastes on a student budget. That’s why she keeps a close eye on celebrity trends, then scours fast fashion outlets to recreate the look for less.

Still have some room in your suitcase? Shoes tend to be the area where most of us overpack…they’re cute AND heavy, leading to some serious overestimation. You should be able to make it through a beach vacation with just three pairs of shoes…if they’re the right ones.

Flip-Flops

Everyone I know wears the cheap Old Navy flip flops. Stand out in–gasp–a Forever 21 pair instead. They come in several different colors, but I like the gray pictured here.

Dressy Sandals

  • I have a severe “thing” for gladiator sandals. Brandon, my fiance (otherwise known on here as THF), calls them my “Russell Crowe shoes.” My sister calls them “Jesus sandals.” However you decide to look at them, you can’t deny their inherent hotness. This pair from Madden Girl is less than $50.
  • Target has some great summer sandals right now. This bejeweled pair is so pretty, and dressy enough for dinner, etc.
  • I love red shoes and this strappy, bare pair from Target is firmly on my “to buy” list.
  • Payless is a good place to pick up inexpensive footwear, like these strappy sandals which would look smashing with a skirt or dress.
  • The wild card here are these sandals from Alloy. They’re a great deal money-wise, but the serpent design and bright colors might be hard to pull off. My suggestion is to wear them something neutral on top, like a casual black or gray dress.
  • These elegant Forever 21 sandals have sexy ankle ties. To keep the ties up on your legs, spray them with some hairspray after they’re tied. Gross, but it works!

Step into spring: Flats and skimmers

Megan covets many shoes (especially sexy librarian pumps), but when it comes to buying, she's all about building a classic, versatile collection of soles.

Spring is finally here — at least, in name. You’ve felt it, no doubt — those slightly-warmer-than-usual temperatures that tease you into thinking that you might be able to wear a skirt and a pair of wedged sandals. Then you do, and you’re fine, until the temperatures get a little too low for comfort. I know, I’ve done it too many times!

The perfect shoes to wear during fickle weather? Flats and skimmers, of course! Unlike sandals that might give your feet a little too much exposure during the low temperatures of the day, and unlike boots that scream “winter!”, flats and skimmers give you comfort, keep your toes warm, and many are cheap enough to snap up a good number to give you different looks (most of those I’ve included here are from Payless or Target).

Flats and skimmers for the spring should be freshly light-colored and made of material that can weather the occasional rainfall (meaning no suede or velvet — those are materials for the holiday season!).

I’ve never had a reason to wear boat moccasins (seeing as a trip to the water to me means a beach trip rather than a trip to the lake), but I still find this twist on the traditional boat moccasin incredibly cute. Obviously these would be worn on a casual (or whimsical!) day.

Pewter flats are incredibly versatile and can be worn during any season for nearly any look — with black tights and a mini in the winter, with a pair of jeans in the spring, with a dress or skirt in the summer. And because of the neutral color and metallic sheen, you can also match them with any color you choose to wear.

Top five top drawer essentials

As a successful public relations executive in Manhattan, Aimee’s got to look the part -- but she’s stuck in fashion rut. Join her on a hunt for a work wardrobe that’s classy AND sassy.

Everyone knows that your style starts at home in the morning… picking out your outfit, selecting shoes, grabbing a great bag… and running out the door. But I’ve found that the work day is the enemy of style — things happen. Creases form, lint finds you, mascara runs, shine appears, shoes hobble… but a little forethought and a well-stocked top desk drawer has saved my look many a time.

So dear Readers/Feeders, I give you: the Top Five Top Drawer Style Essentials (and where you might find them online.)

1. The Garment Salvation Kit

Go to www.drugstore.com or the like to select some cheap and portable products to fix style emergencies. Put together a little Fix It Kit online, and then ship it right to work. Unpack to your top drawer and bask in your preparedness, you good little Scout. Some of my personal must-haves…a lint roller, some stain removers, and a wrinkle spray.
