Will this runway trend translate: Colorful suits?

A blogger for fashion retailer Bluefly.com, Nana breaks down the biggest trends on the curb, the catwalk & the red carpet.

The spring 2010 men’s shows presented multiple variations on the traditional suit. Tons of designers showed short pants, and/or pegged trousers and bunched up jacket sleeves for a “boyfriend” effect. Others played with jacket lengths presenting everything from zoot-lengths to cropped styles. Some sliced off the sleeves altogether creating an oversized tunic effect vaguely reminiscent of the robes African men wear, while others played with fabric – Calvin Klein went sheer while Z Zegna experimented with stripes.

But the most interesting execution to me were the Italian Ice colored suits that popped in the Calvin Klein, Jean Paul Gaultier, C.P. Company, Gucci, Salvatore Ferragamo, Moschino, and Paul Smith shows. Head-to-toe shades of Blue Gelati, Watermelon, Cherry, and Lemon Ice were surprisingly good looks. Do you agree?

  • I love the berry coloured suit…too bad men are so “I don’t want to stand out in a crowd” with their outfits most the time. I don’t think average guys will even bother to get a suit in a surprising colour. Wish they did.

  • I like them, but I doubt guys will buy them.

  • I think that the models pull it off on the runway, but, as Brie said, I don’t think many guys will want a suit as bright as those.

  • I love the berry suit, guys could dare to wear it for occasions and ditch the boring color suits for a change.

  • The shirt colors are the real problem here.
