Confession: I’m totally intimidated by fall’s jewelry trend
It looks easy enough to double wrap a strand of pearls around my wrists and layer on a bunch of necklaces and chains, but I fear that what looks very Les Fashionable on American Idol finalist (and Olsen twin doppelganger in this photo anyway), Ramiele Malubay, would look very Coco Chanel Halloween costume on me.

she looks VERY Mary-Kate…wow
I love a simple doubling up of jewelry, but the full on layering is something I’m too shy to try with my clothes even!
If you do give it a shot, post a photo to inspire the rest of us!
Anything over-the-top should be done with full confidence and commitment! I love to pile up vintage chain bracelets on my left arm and always get compliments. The photo above is a bit much for real life, but pick an area (wrist or neck) and go all out.
Hmmm did you see “Devil wears Prada”? There’s this scene in which Andrea goes to deliver the book, and she’s wearing one of these Chanel necklaces, and it looked really nice over a white shirt and black boat neck sweater combo. Her hair was in a bun with a nice cap on top… I think the key is in not clashing all the elements of your outfit, and let in this case, the necklace shine. Here’s a pic.

Here’s a thought: ignore the trend. She looks like a bag lady.
The key to the right look is to go with what you like and what you feel comfortable wearing. Take a good look at yourself in the mirror, you’ll know whether you look good. Taking up someone else’s style never works unless you can find a way to make it your own.
Thanks for sharing the ‘Devil Wears Prada’ pic, Cinthia! Perhaps a charm necklace is the way to go!
I agree with daisy above. It only works if you have the confidence to pull it off. As a jewelry designer, I go back and forth in my own personal style. Sometimes I feel like wearing a ton, other times I accessorize very minimally. They both work because I don’t look like I’m trying. And I’m not. So it’s your own personal opinion at that specific night. Clashing can work too, if you have the right attitude. Wear what you want!
you are absolutely right, J! thing is, i really like the trend and want to incorporate it into my wardrobe. i see how amazing jewelry can look when it’s stacked, layered and piled on, but feel a lil’ intimidated to try it myself so i wear one bangle or go earring-less instead. i LOVE fashion and experimenting with new looks and trends, so it would be cool to learn to master this one.
I really like this look, but I definitely think the easiest way to ease yourself into this trend is choose either the bracelet or necklace, not both. Try a couple of layered bracelets, or a chunky charm necklace, to see if you like the look. Otherwise ditch it, as if you feel you look silly you’ll radiate that in your composure. Confidence is the key for any style (which I think has been the clear message from all the posts)
Madonna, circa early ’80’s. Been there, done that.
I agree with juliebess…I tried this fad the frist time around…when Madonna first hit the scene in 1984. It was okay but really…I just ended up wrecking pearl necklaces and fake pearl necklaces by wrapping thme around my wrist. I pass this time around.
A Chanel is a Chanel necklace, so how can we go wrong with that. However, if we do try to copy this look and not look like Madonna circa 80s, better stick to classics. Full jewelry fake or otherwise, over a simple shift in solid, bold colors. Fashionable but not frightening, trendy but not tramp-y.
i think the trend is fabulous…n lyk the others said, you gotta be confident to strut your stuff. give it a try!!!
I love it! but I don’t need to do it ALL the time. Nor would I feel the need to copy this gal.
And BTW, forget Madonna and check out the fashionista who made it her lifelong trademark - Iris Apfel.

She combined designer fashion with H&M, vintage, fleamarket and tribal (African & Amer. Indian). The more outlandish, the better.
My new personal fashion hero!
I know I already posted but now I want to take the advice of the girls above and try just a single arm or just the necklaces–that could really work so long as you are comfortable & confident in the accessorizing! And hey, if you’re worried that you’ve put too much on, just go with Chanel herself “take off the last thing you put on” and I’m sure you’ll look fab!
I am confident in accessorizing…I just am over this fad from the first time it came through the fashion world.
It was tacky then and it is tacky now.
That looks very Madonna & 80’s to me, personally I wouldn’t wear it or maybe I’ll tone it down a bit, sometimes less is more.
xoxo
I agree with Martha, the look in the photo is very 80’s Madonna, but you can definitely layer the beads, baubles and chains on with confidence in a more stylish manner without looking tres tacky. With a little layering practice you’ll be tres chic and loving it!
