Feelin’ the 70’s

Jackie has champagne tastes on a student budget. That’s why she keeps a close eye on celebrity trends, then scours fast fashion outlets to recreate the look for less.

I’m big into 70’s-inspired clothing for fall. Wave good-bye to your skinny jeans and get ready for some easy, pretty fall fashion.

There’s something really romantic and pretty about 70’s-inspired looks. Just check out how hot the cast of the original Charlie’s Angels looked.

Ready to travel back in time? Try these looks on for size.

  1. This loose chiffon blouse brings to mind the easy-breezy looks of the 70’s.
  2. I adore these wide-leg, high-waisted jeans. Perfect vintage style at a great price.
  3. Bangles add a bit of rock-and-roll.
  4. Sky-high green wedges add a modern color to a decades-old style.

  1. Plaid has a girl-next-door look on the hanger, but is surprisingly sexy on.
  2. A belt ties the look together and gives a good proportion overall.
  3. I like the dark wash of these wide-leg jeans, and the large cuffs help the jeans dress up a bit easier.
  4. Blue wedges equal a down-home, patriotic color scheme without looking hokey or cutesy.

  1. Embroidery was a huge 70’s trend. Pick up a modern version from Urban Outfitters.
  2. These jeans still have a wide-leg look, but aren’t too trendy or over-the-top.
  3. Subdued colors on these wedges lets your shirt stand out.

  1. I like the vivid colors (love navy) and flower pattern on this blouse from Forever 21.
  2. Gold bangles give an outfit a good vibe: really fun and flirty.
  3. I like the vintage-looking pattern on these red wedges.
  4. Light-colored denim is more true to the 70’s. This pair doesn’t have an overwhelmingly high-waist or big flare, so they’re more versatile in your everyday wardrobe.

  • Even though I grew up during the 70s, I still love the style! Fits right in with todays casual dressing.

The time period between the 30’s and the 70’s (a 40-year-span, crazy!) seems constantly inspire new, exciting trends. My personal favorte? The 40’s-50’s. My sister loves the 70’s. We’re a good fit!

  • I am loving the 70s inspired clothing that is out for Fall. I was a child of the 70s as well and it just thrills me to be able to get jeans that look like the ones the babysitter used to wear back then. :)

  • Then again, you can’t go wrong with a good old plaid button-up (or really any of the tops featured) and skinny jeans this century.

AJ, I think that’s what so crazy about modern fashion: it’s combining so many recycled trends that there’s no distinctive 2008 “look,” in my opinion. Skinny jeans, plaid, skulls, flannel, motorcycle boots, tights, scarves…it’s all been done before. Will there ever be a genuinely new fashion trend? Time will tell.
