here are some more detailed instructions for the hairspray trick:
1. tie the ribbons around your legs. the hairspray trick works best when you are trying to wear the ribbons up and around you calves, like this: http://www.1fashion.com/Thumbs/63/E2447BKG.JPG. i don't like the espadrilles in that photo, but you get the idea.
2. make sure you are standing with your legs as straight as possible when you tie the ribbons, so that when you sit, they won't slide down your legs.
3. once you've tied the ribbons, spray the ribbon (and thus, your leg) with hairspray. extra hold works best. it doesn't gunk up the ribbon and helps give some extra traction between your skin and the slippery ribbons.

i've read that fashion tape (to strap down boobies, etc.) also works just as well, and may be simpler in the long run. i haven't tried it personally, but it seems viable!

I've never heard the hairspray trick before...I have a pair of pesky espadrilles I will have to try this on. So you just spray th e knot once you've got it tied? Doesn't the ribbon get all gunked up eventually?
