Eco-friendly bowls in a riot of colors

As someone who makes her living writing about and taking pictures of food, Bea spends a lot of time thinking about how to set a gorgeous table.

When I first came across these eco-friendly bowls, my main challenge was not whether or not to buy them — this was already decided — but what color and size I would choose. If I had listened to myself, I would probably have bought one in each color.

A few companies sell these bamboo bowls, so it is not choices that will be lacking.

I particularly love this first one from Lekker:

At Joanne Hudson Basics, you can find a different style, in a different finish, but just as lovely. I own a few.

Bambu Boutique has also designed a good selection to choose from, including these stunning low bowls.

Then, perhaps you will also want to use a matching salad server

and a large salad bowl too.

Christmas is only a few weeks away. There is still plenty of time to be good to the planet, and your kitchen too. Who said that winter was dull, devoid of colors?

    Hi Bea,

I love the look and concept of bamboo bowls, but still haven’t gotten around to buy any. Since you mention you own a couple how durable do you find them? I guess I am wondering whether they’ll crack up easily, or the colored finish will flake or something ;)

    Thanks, Viil

  • Hi Viil,

They are doing great with me. I am also careful as to how I wash them — no dishwasher — and keep the color and look. Good luck!

  • My bamboo bowls have been great! I bought them from http://www.totallybamboo.com. They are all natural and are not painted but have been left in the sink submerged in water and still intact after 3 years of hard use! Highly recommended!
